Younghee Choi Martin’s canvases are full of energy. Her drawings combine an old master intelligence and a contemporary ferocity. She draws on classical subject matter of such painters as Poussin or Reubens, and she transforms their themes and arrangements into extraordinary semi-abstract images that are charged with her own emotional intensity. She is a skilled brush-handler and her love of oil pigment and of lush color is visible in all of her work.
